Fiction. Mystery. Christian Fiction. Once again private investigator Cate Kinkaid finds herself in more danger than her pay grade should allow when a straightforward case of attempted robbery turns out to be so much more.

I’m not 100% sure what actually happened here. I think my iPhone is actually responsible for me “requesting” this book.

I say that because “Death Takes a Ride” is nowhere near my usual type of book… but you know that thing that your phone does on an internet page – you tap the screen and it moves just as your finger touches it and you’ve instead selected something halfway down the page from what you were just looking at.

Yeah, mine does that all the time.

Anyway, apparently my iPhone thinks this is a book worth reading – and Revell sent it to me with certain expectations – so I gave it a try…

And DARN IT! Now I have to go hunt down the first two in the series. Because I don’t have enough books…

Yes, this is the third book in the series and No, I haven’t read the first two but that would definitely not be a good enough reason NOT to read this book! Lorena McCourtney smoothly brings us up to speed and lets us in on the pattern in these novels with only a few short sentences. And she does it in a way that adds to the story without distracting you one bit from the plot.

BRAVO Lorena!

As with most Mystery series, you have at least one character who finds themselves in the middle of a sticky situation at least once in each book and this one is no different.

I LOVE that Cate’s faith is woven into each scene of the book – helping her get through these tough situations and tricky investigations.

I do believe I have found a NEW mystery series that I’m just going to LOVE!

Most of you remember my review a few months ago of an Amish Mystery that I did not expect to enjoy as much as I did either. Apparently my problem was that the mysteries I read years ago that almost completely turned me off to the genre were not even remotely inspirational in nature. They relied on inappropriate relationships and believing impossible things about the characters to keep readers interested.

This book, like the Amish one, DOES NOT do any of that! Which of course means that I LOVE it and will happily recommend it to EVERYONE!

I received this book free in exchange for an honest review. ( )

This is one of the first cozy mysteries that I've read that is "inspirational" (i.e. Christian). It didn't make it a whole lot different than a normal cozy mystery, the characters didn't drink and they prayed to God a few times, but other than that it was pretty much the same as what you'd expect. Cate is a youngish assistant private detective working her way up her Uncle's business. She has a bossy cat, a sweet, nerdy boyfriend, and a knack for getting into trouble. In this book she stumbles onto a murder scene and gets herself wrapped up into a perplexing case of why would anyone want to kill a mechanic? With the help of her boyfriend, her cat, and God she solves the case.

I jumped into this series, The Cate Kincaid Files, at book number three I didn't feel like I missed out on anything by not reading the first three, it served fine as a stand alone. For fans of inspirational books and cozy mysteries.

I received this book free from Kregel publishing in return for my honest, unbiased opinion. ( )

I love a cozy mystery, and one that keeps me guessing and includes a main character who takes her faith seriously is a book that I definitely want to read. Lorena McCourtney’s 3rd book in The Cate Kinkaid Files fits the bill. If you love cozies too, then check out Death Takes A Ride.

Cate Kinkaid has the knack for finding dead bodies, even though her uncle and boss at Belmont Investigations says their private investigation firm does not deal in murder. But Cate is soon to be a full-fleged private investigator and the sole proprietor of the business, so when a case involving murder comes up she doesn’t shy away. With the aid of her boyfriend, a detecting cat and a hulk of a dog, Cate is determined to get to the bottom of a shooting that on the surface looked like self-defense, but soon involves scheming ex-wives, motorcycles and gambling debts.

Death Takes A Ride is filled with fun and endearing characters including Cate, her boyfriend and computer whiz Mitch, a detecting cat named Octavia and a big hulk of a dog named Clancy. In fact if you like a good dog story, you will enjoy Clancy and his antics. The investigation takes a few twists and turns and Cate often finds herself in interesting situations that need a bit of assistance to get out of. But through it all, Cate keeps her faith and shares it along the way. Never moralizing or preachy, this novel does have a character who takes her faith seriously — Cate goes to church, prays and acknowledges that God is the one in control. There is romance as well which adds a sweetness to the story. And although this book is the third in the series, it can easily be read as a standalone novel. I liked it, and if you are a fan of cozies, I am betting you will too. Now I just need to go back and read books 1 and 2!

Recommended.

This is a book that I had been waiting to release and was excited when I saw a release date for this book. I have read many books from this author and love her stories. Cate Kinkaid finds herself in positions where she gets to put her PI skills to use. I like how she has the best of intentions of staying out of trouble, but manages to find it anyway.
Cate has reached the point where she is awaiting her PI license and will take over her uncle's business on a full time business. While doing this she is also still trying to see where her relationship with Mitch is going. Cate finds herself where a shooting has taken place as she goes to pick up a friend of her aunt's for a meeting and soon finds herself caught up in finding up what has really happened.
I also love any book that has a pet in a pivotal role. Cate has inherited Octavia from a pervious case and this cat has abilities that help Cate in making decisions for her cases.
I received this book from the publisher to review. ( )
