I think a lot of us can understand why Five is acting like that. He's still young and lacks proper guidance that's why some of his decision was just decided hastily without thinking further of the consequences. And I think anyone wants to have an easy and comfortable life just like Five. If a secured lifestyle is offer to you on a silver platter, wouldn't you accept it like Five? Of course, your first thought would be just like his. But if you know that everything comes with a price and you know that they are just enticing you with their promises, you would hesitate to accept it.

In the case of Five, he is very much young and he didn't weigh the pros and cons on siding with the Mogs. He just thought of Rey's last words on him and he literally interpreted it just like that. But I believe that Five is a kind person deep inside based from his friendship with Emma and when he thought that Ethan might be killed if he don't accept the Mogs offer. ( )
