"The Little Fellow" is really two different books depending on which edition you buy! The older one illustrated by Diana Thorne has a stereotypical African American groom that speaks in dialect, and the new one illustrated by Rich Rudish made Whitey into Dooley, a stereotypical Irish groom that also speaks in dialect.

The groom character isn't the only text that changed. The new edition fleshed some things out and also has more accurate illustrations - a whole bit about the foal's white star was illustrated by a colt with a wide blaze by Thorne.

As for the story, a foal named Chip is enjoying his life until a new foal in the field gets more attention than he does. ( )

A sweet and funny tale of a young colt who gets jealous of a new arrival. It is also full of whimsical illustrations of the horses in this little fellow's life. ( )
