I really enjoyed reading this book, it is based off of a nickelodeon TV show called: Paw Patrol. The fact that it is based off of a TV show permits the reader to associate what they are reading to what he/she has seen on the show. The story elements, language and dialogue used throughout this book are very clear and concise. The problem of this story is presented to the reader right on the first page, “Ryder sees a problem at the lighthouse. The light is out. Without it, ships could crash into Seal Island.” This allows the reader to identify and comprehend the problem in the story and predict what may happen next. Once Ryder, Zuma, and Chase (two pups from paw patrol) reach Seal Island they notice a big ship approaching Seal Island this is the climax of the story. The author uses personification giving each pup their own special ability to help out in certain situations. For example Zuma drives a hover craft that transports them across the water to Seal Island. Chase is a police dog, he has a net that helps Ryder climb the side of the light house to the window, since the door was locked. Chase also has a spot light that is used to signal the ship away from Seal Island until they could replace the bulb. The main idea of this book is to never be afraid to ask for help and when you work together you can accomplish anything (sometimes you need the skills of others to accomplish a task). ( )
