Students become mathematical adventurers in these challenging and engaging activities designed to deepen and extend their understanding of concepts from the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics. The investigations in this book stretch students' mathematical imaginations to their limits as they create and manipulate geometric figures, draw and analyze complex designs, and develop and apply measurement strategies to solve challenging real-world and mathematical problems. Each activity comes with extensive support for classroom implementation including learning goals, discussion guides, detailed solutions, and suggestions for extending the investigation. There is also a free supplemental e-book offering strategies for motivation, assessment, parent communication, and suggestions for using the materials in different learning environments. This book seemed a bit advanced for the recommended age range. It would be nice to have a version with fewer algebraic expressions for the younger crowd. This book has many fun activities for exploring mathematical rules without rote memorization.

This would be an amazing book for middle school math teachers (I am a 5th grade teacher & could only find one or two connections to my curriculum). Since this is directed at Advanced math students in those grades, I think it works wonderfully! Each lesson seems like an excellent way to set up a differentiated math lesson for students looking for some independent/collaborative work without direct teacher instruction. I personally would not say it's intended for Grades 5-8, however. ( )

This is a good book that has lessons to illustrate and teach the CCSS. I am a special education teacher that is required to teach grade level standards to students who function far below grade level. Although these activities will be too challenging for my students to complete independently, I think that I could modify parts of the activities and work them through with my kids. Particularly, I believe that this is doable for the Stage 1 activities. I also appreciate that there are multiple standards that address each lesson and that each standard is clearly aligned to the lessons. I look forward to using this book as a resource. Thanks! ( )

I gave this book to my brother who is in sixth grade and his favorite subject is Math. He thought it was really interesting and spent a few hours going through it for fun. ( )
