I enjoyed this beginner reader book. I could see how children would enjoy the humor in the stories. I also like how there are three separate stories within the book. I think this would keep children interest instead of them reading a longer story. This would be a great story to have in a classroom for students to read during free time.

Again, I really liked these stories, they are so relatable. It reminded me of my sisters and I messing around as children and thinking that we were pulling the wool over our parents eyes.

Three chapters tell a different story of the fox sisters and their adventures. The first chapter follows the sisters as they decide to run away after finding out that their dad is making cucumber sandwiches again. They run away to their backyard where their parents cannot see them. After being outside for a while, they decide to go back home where their dad is excited to see them and has saved cucumber sandwiches for them. In the second chapter, the sisters decide to bury a time capsule for future generations to find. Each sister puts something very valuable to them in the box. Each sister misses their item and decides to dig up the box without knowing the other sister feels the same way. In the end, they decide to put a book in the time capsule. Chapter three is about how one sister is having a hard time writing a poem. The other sister and a friend decide to make creative juice to help out. They accidentally spill juice on the poem, but in the end the sister is not upset since she decides to draw a picture instead. This book is great one to use when introducing chapter books. Each chapter is written in a way that is easy for young readers to read, and each chapter is short enough to hold the reader's attention. The illustrations are very colorful and located on each page. I feel that this helps a reader keep their interest in the story. A great lesson might be to have the students create the next chapter in which the sister's have an adventure. Each student would be allowed to choose their own story line and could add pictures to the pages. Since this might be the students first time, I would keep the chapter to a minimum of seven pages. They could use the book as an example on how to set up a chapter in a book. During the reading, I would stop on page 7 to ask the students if they thought that Ivy and Zelda's parents knew the girls were missing. After reading page 15, I would ask the students to show me with their faces how they think the sisters felt when their dad said that cucumber sandwiches were saved for them. On page 19, I would ask the students to turn and talk about what they might stick in a time capsule. After reading page 31, I would ask the students if they would drink the concoction after Ivy added an eyelash to it. I would ask the students if they believe that the creative juice actually worked after reading page 42.

Zelda and Ivy are sisters who happen to be foxes. In the first of three chapters, the sisters decide they are better off running away than suffering the dreaded cucumber sandwiches that their father has made again. So the girls pack up and head out to the backyard where they entertain themselves while waiting for their parents to miss them terribly. The other two chapters are also stories of Zelda and Ivy spending their days together, creating small projects as many young siblings do.

I had never heard of Zelda and Ivy books before but thought I'd check them out since the character's names were interesting. I though this book was ok. It was cute and a good beginning chapter book for kids but nothing really special. The book was a few stories broken into chapters. One was about running away because they didn't want to eat cucumber sandwiches. Then no one noticed they ran away. Another story was about a time capsule that both characters ended up digging up. Again, I think that mostly young girls would enjoy reading this beginning chapter book but there are much better ones out there. ( )
