Brilliant cosmic crossover event from Jonathan Hickman. With the Avengers off world fighting the Universe-seeding god-race the Builders, the mad Titan Thanos sees his opportunity to strike at the earth; his target is not quite what you would expect and a mystery from the Inhumans past bears bitter fruit. This leads directly to the (somewhat disappointing) Inhumanity storyline, and also to the more subtle and impressive Thanos; A God Up There Listening. ( )

I'd read some of this story in some of the other Marvel titles, but, this gigantic TPB was the entire story line and wow did it take a lot to get through.

It's sort of two stories (three if you count the Illuminati subplot that appears here and there) First there's the builders. They're coming to raze Earth and on their way they're basically going to destroy the rest of our universe. Then there's Thanos. There's something on Earth that he wants and while the majority of the Avengers are off world trying to save the universe with the empires of the Skrull, Kree, etc., he decides it's time to go for it.

It was weird to see all the empires mostly working well together, but, the most ominous part of the TPB was the stuff at the end with the Swan. Uh oh Marvel Universe. ( )

I respect Jonathan Hickman and have liked some of his work in the past.

What he does with the Avengers just doesn't work for me.

Too many attempts at being more epic than anyone else makes this whole story not work for me. I never cared much for anyone in here as it's all plot and no character IMO. ( )
