Sequel to The Pack or the PantherTales of the Harker Pack: Book Two Socialite Lindsey Vanessen wants someone to love who will love him back--an impossibility for a gay, half-human, half-werewolf. Too aggressive for humans, too gay for wolves, and needing to protect the pack from human discovery, Lindsey tries to content himself with life as a successful businessman. But when someone starts kidnapping members of wealthy families, Lindsey meets tough cop Seth Zakowsy--the hunky embodiment of everything Lindsey wants but can't have. Seth has never been attracted to flamboyant men. What would the guys in the department think of Lindsey? But intrigue turns to lust when he discovers Lindsey's biting, snarling passion more than matches his dominant side. It might mean a chance at love for a cop in black leather and a wolf in Gucci loafers.… (mehr)

Wolf in Gucci Loafers is the second book in the ‘Tales of the Harker Pack’. Lindsey Vanessen who appeared in book one as the friend of Cole, and Seth Zakowsky, a cop, are the main characters. This is told in third person from both Lindsey and Seth’s pov.

3.5 Stars

I read this book a couple years ago but didn’t review it, only rated it. I decided to re-read because I enjoyed it the first time, the author had changed the cover, and I wanted to complete my review.

I’ll start with the cover. I like it to an extent. The gray and green colors are awesome. When I first looked at the cover model, I paid attention to his suit and thought his slimness fit the character, Lindsey. Then I noticed his face and couldn’t figure out why he was so angry. He doesn’t come across as angry in book one, so the expression on this cover threw me. However, I’ll talk more about his expression later. The last thing that doesn’t work for me is the model’s hair color and length. Many times, it’s mentioned in book one and two that Lindsey has long, blond hair. The previous cover even has him with long, blond hair. The new cover model has neither. For me, the cover model doesn’t look anything like Lindsey except for his body. I’d rather not see a model’s face or head if he doesn’t come close to what the character looks like. It’s personal preference, but I find it puts a damper on the story.

We learn more about Lindsey in this book. His mother fixes him up with dates, but he isn’t interested, he’s not a playboy even though he presents that image because he’s rich. Lindsey being half wolf and half human doesn’t fit into either world, so he keeps busy with his family’s business. I mentioned Lindsey’s angry expression on the cover. Lindsey says he’s unable to control his wolf side and is vicious. I’d like to know if this is true for all werewolves or just for Lindsey? I didn’t get that impression about the other wolves in the first book. Yes, there were bad wolves, but they were no worse than bad humans. So why does Lindsey have it worse in controlling his wolf? It’s never explained in the story. The book does say he is too strong and aggressive for humans. But Lindsey still fears killing Seth when they have sex. I don’t remember that mentioned about any of the other werewolves. I can only guess that something is wrong with Lindsey if he fears attacking his mate, but that’s never explained either. What makes him more aggressive or vicious than any other wolf?

The first time Lindsey smells Seth from a distance, he’s hooked. For Seth it’s instant lust, but he’s had bad experiences with the rich and he has no intention of giving into his desires. Of course, he does and he loves Lindsey’s aggressiveness. Lindsey and Seth or made for each other and the author did a good job of conveying that. I could believe in their relationship and them as a couple.

There was less wacky descriptions and joking around in this story, which made the story more enjoyable. However there were still comments by Lindsey like (paraphrasing), ‘His balls were on fire and coming was painful, but only a little,’ along with the howling while in human form. At those times, those descriptions had me giving certain sentences the side-eye.

There are inconsistencies in the story that aren’t explained. Like how did Cole and some of the other werewolves, learn that Lindsey had been kidnapped, and they showed up in the parking building to confront Seth? However, they still needed information from Seth about what happened to Lindsey because they didn’t know he’d been kidnapped. Why not just go to Lindsey’s house since his family likely knew Cole already. They knew something happened, but didn’t know what happened, doesn’t make sense. How did they find out? Why then didn’t they track Lindsey down with their wolf senses? Especially Cole who is a super werewolf. I had more parts marked that didn’t make sense, but the above are only a few.

I enjoyed the plot, Lindsey’s secret, the kidnappings, and Lindsey and Seth’s relationship. The inconsistencies annoyed me as did the over the top vocal expressions of Lindsey’s. Overall, I still enjoyed the story more than the first book, and give, Wolf in Gucci Loafers, 4 Stars.

I received an ARC from the author for an honest and unbiased review. ( )

This was even more fun than the first - Lindsey is a wonderful character and I was glad to see him get his man. ( )

I liked all the characters in this book (Seth, Lindsey, Jazz, Pop-Pop).

Bruce was some kind of crazy-cakes. When he was first introduced, I thought okay, so this guy is boring, but he seems nice enough. Every subsequent scene with him he comes off as a creepy, possessive stalker. The apple clearly doesn't fall far from the tree, because his father is also creepy.

I wasn't sure whether they were involved in the kidnappings, or whether they were just after Lindsey for the Vanessen money.

Still, for all of that, this book, is primarily about Lindsey and Seth (and Jazz finding a new family). There are parts where you can really see Lindsey's loneliness, and I feel for a guy in his position. He's got one foot in two completely different worlds. Neither completely human nor completely wolf. He can find a wolf mate because of that ridiculous 'no gay wolves' idea, plus the theory that Lindsey is "too human". Yet, he can't really find happiness with anyone human because he is a wolf, and that part of his life cannot be hidden for long, not if his relationship is going to be true.

I liked the way it ended, for the most part, but I think I would have preferred I little more openness and less feeling like their solution was just a 'solution' and not really about the couple and their feelings. Maybe, if we had seen that conversation between Cole and Seth, so we could see how Cole explained it and the way it really was talked about between Lindsey's best friend and the main he would marry. Instead, we only got how the Alpha sold it to the Pack, which was more diplomacy, less real feelings, and truth. Though the words spoken between Seth and Lindsey were heartfelt enough. ( )
