This is a really fun book for members of the SCA (of which I've been one for 17 years). The mystery is decent but not riveting. The real fun here is the look into the world and people of the Society for Creative Anachronism, a medieval recreation group. It's a pretty true portrayal. I would love to see this redone and modernized though as the SCA has changed greatly since 1986. If you've ever wondered what those 'crazy' medieval reenacters really do, this is a fun place to start. ( ) Synopsis: Peter and Katherine (Kori) are taking part in medieval re-enactments (sort of) along with their friends, Geoff and Ann plus another several thousand. One of the horde members is killed and Katherine finds the body; because he laid hands on her earlier, she is suspected of his murder. The local police don't want Peter's help, but his 'King' orders him to find the truth. Review: This book made me want to go romp in the woods with the folks doing Medieval re-enactments. It's also a nicely crafted mystery. There are plenty of clues so that the reader can figure out 'who done it' any may even get there before the protagonist does.
