In 54 pages, Jenny Trout writng as Abigail Barnette brings life to Ellie, Antony (the hot guy next door) and Ellie's two best friends Sarah and Dawn. All three women in this book support each other and don't act like prudes about sex. I do like that both of Ellie's friends caution her against having casual sex since she doesn't do casual well. And I loved that Ellie as a character acknowledges she doesn't do casual well and is acting way ton possessive of a guy that she just hooked up with.
Antony also has a lot of depth and we find out about him towards the end of the story.
I do like the hot guy next door trope since that's every women's fantasy. A hot, sexy, man moves next door and he's totally the one. Too bad I always live next to possible serial killers or families. Seriously those always seem to be my options.
I had some minor quibbles which is why I gave this 4.5 stars. When we get to the sex between Ellie and Antony they just talked too much. I appreciated that it wasn't a lot of Ellie telling us what he was doing and how her body felt (there was some of that too) but these two were way more talkative than I could put up with. I was having flashbacks to an ex that talked and just kept shaking my head.
Also the attraction of Antony to Ellie seemed a little too neat. He tells her that he noticed her, but she never saw him? Who is he Batman? That part rang a little false to me.
And there's also a scene where he says he hoped that Ellie was a cam girl. This was his way of subtly getting g her back for thinking he was a prostitute/gigolo. However, a few scenes later Ellie is upset thinking he didnt mean his compliment when she thinks he's up to no good (I dont want to spoil). Um someone calling you a cam girl doesn't sound like a compliment. I seriously read that and said what?
That said this short story was funny and hot in turns and also realistic. Our couple has sex in the morning and Ellie acknowledges they both have bad breath. I always laugh at romance novels that has the couple indulging in a morning quicky where they are fresh as a daisy. Also there's some pop culture references that made me laugh.
I really do think that it would be great to see Ellie and Antony in future books or Ellie's best friends. I got so much from just 54 pages that I am greedy for more. ( )
