Gardens are living things and they all get old and tired even when tended regularly with care and skill. When you buy a house you inherit a problem, but even for the keen gardener on his beloved plot there are bound to be some parts that need help. But few of us have the time or the money to begin all over again. What we want to do is bring new life and restore lost beauty to parts of the garden which are either no longer attractive or are in trouble. But we want to keep as much as we can. In simple terms we want to revive the garden. We want to get rid of or change the ugly bits, the sickly bits and the overgrown bits. First of all it takes the individual features- the lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, fruit, ponds and so on, and explains what to do about the problems we all face: One tree is growing into another. What do I do? Then it shows how to tackle general garden problems: My garden is just too much trouble; There are weeds everywhere; My garden is dull and needs colour. And the third section gives the basics of garden design- how to draw the plans, how to create new features. This is a book for real gardeners in the real world. It's not about fancy make- overs- how to turn your garden into their idea of good design. It's how to bring your own garden back to life.… (mehr)

This is an interesting look at how to adapt your garden to your life and to ensure that you have what you want out of it, how to fix problems and how to make your garden a place you want to visit.

He goes into detail, and lists problems and ideas, as well as design advice. It's a book I may come back to again for further ideas as we work on our garden. ( )
