Like the exceptional child in the class, this book may be the best read aloud of all, or the most difficult read aloud of all, or both. Either way, children love this book. As you would expect, Steve’s transition to school is not smooth, despite a pep talk from his wolf mother (“just be yourself”). The story, however, is more about transition than self-esteem. Somehow, Steve must come to terms with his teacher and classmates and gain acceptance. Can he succeed before the children you are reading to start howling themselves? Spoiler: The ending is all smiles. ( )

Summary: This book is about a young boy who was raised by wolves and how his first week of school does not go as planned. He is himself as his mother suggested but that means that he behaves like a wolf and gets in trouble for things such as eating another kid's homework. In the end he learns how to behave after the teacher talks to his wolf mom. ( )
