DO NOT listen to the audiobook. The accents are VILE. The prior audiobook was a poor exercise in ASMR but this one is even worse.

That said, the story was fine. (

Well, this is my least favorite series by this author. But, it was her first, so she had to start somewhere. I liked these characters fine, but I wasn't compelled to feel very invested in them. I could kinda take or leave it. But, it's probably also my second favorite of the series, lol. Reid has come a long way in her writing, in a short amount of time really, so that's excellent. And I've definitely read worse debut series by authors who ended up being awesome, so I hold no grude.

One side point that's just sticking in my craw, If the hero, who has been terribly molested, (prior to this story), could *willingly* bare to be molested again by his rapist(!) just to prove a point to himself(!!), he could 100% stand to be touched by the woman he loves. That doesn't guarantee he'll enjoy it or anything, just that if he could stand the *by far and away* WORSE one, there's no way you can convince me that he can't bare the heroine's touch, and isn't sure he'll ever be able to! That's total bollocks. (

Thought the character of Mikhail was really interesting and a different type of hero character. Enjoyed it. (

Ms. Reid like a fine wine, keeps getting better. I am relatively new to her writing. I discovered her back in March when I got the chance to read Sins of A Duke. Her ability to humanize characters by showing their weaknesses is what I love most about her work. With fiction and romance sometimes we as readers get caught up in the fantasy of make-believe. With the Royal Conquest we are taken through the pain of facing emotions without the blinders. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Payton and Mikhail read like a cacophony. They were a mismatched couple that started out a riotous mess but ended as a harmonic rhapsody. (

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review. I enjoyed this storyline as it was unique as it was mostly from the guy's perspective in battling his demons and realizing that he was falling in love. I thought Payton was an interesting character full of complexity and intriguing and the combination of both characters made it a great love story and a great book to read. (
