"The agents of Supernatural Protection & Investigation (SPI) know that fighting evil is a full-time job, especially when a new designer drug hits the streets. It's called Brimstone. After the first few hits, you'll see every supernatural beast sharing the sidewalk, train, or office with you. After that, you'll start seeing the really scary stuff. I'm Makenna Fraser, seer for SPI. And the collateral damage caused by Brimstone is something I'd like to unsee: dead drug dealers missing their hearts--and souls. Because your local pusher doesn't stand a chance against the new cartel muscling its way into New York. Plus, since the drug can only be produced with magic and molten brimstone fresh from Hell, a rift to the underworld must be open somewhere in the city."--Back cover.… (mehr)

Recap after recap

How many different ways can you restate the facts? The first two thirds of this book seeks to find out. Every time you meet a character you get a quick restatement of his salient qualities. It gets boring to here Yasha described again, and again, and again. The actual plot is no more than a novella.

And the editing. Ugh.

Not proof reading. That was largely efficient. But it seems that nobody went through and made sure that sentences appeared in the best order. There was a bit about elevators that just...yes, snarky, humorous. But the final sentence on the matter was not the last one. That's where the editing fell short, repeatedly.

This is just not good. ( )

I have enjoyed listening to this series, Mac is a fun character and the cast is full of interesting personalities, I like Rake and Ian, the Dragon Boss Lady and Alain, Mac's Vampire manager. This is definitely UF Lite - fun and easy. ( )

SPI Agents never catch a break. Action and adventure to keep you occupied, romance to make you swoon.

Another fun adventure for Mac and Ian. New York’s drug dealers are being killed off while a new drug, created with Hell’s Brimstone, is flooding the city. Ian and Mac have to track down the killer and the maker of Brimstone before anyone else dies.

Rake is, of course, a suspect. But is he part of the plot, or is he just being set up? I love how Rake gets “real” in this story. We get to see beyond the playboy facade to the person underneath.

Again, Johanna Parker does a great job of narrating the story. She is such a good pick for these stories. I can’t wait until the next one. ( )

Finally a book I could sink my teeth into! No sex, just lots of fun. The series has been likened to Men in Black and I can see that. Mac is fresh off of saving the world after Halloween when she and Ian have their breakfast dates interrupted. There's a murder. What makes it unusual? Cloven hoof burned into the vic's chest along with a gaping hole where his heart used to be. Suddenly they're getting at least one a day of these scenes and key people are some of the victims. ( )
