Fiction. Literature. Romance. Historical Fiction. Fiercely independent Daisy Chance has a dream-and it doesn't involve marriage or babies (or being under any man's thumb). Raised in poverty, she has a passion-and a talent-for making beautiful clothes. Daisy aims to become the finest dressmaker in London. Dashing Irishman Patrick Flynn is wealthy and ambitious, and has entered society to find an aristocratic bride. Instead, he finds himself growing increasingly attracted to the headstrong, clever, and outspoken Daisy. She's wrong in every way-except the way she sets his heart racing. However, when Flynn proposes marriage, Daisy refuses. She won't give up her hard-won independence. Besides, she doesn't want to join the fine ladies of society-she wants to dress them. She might, however, consider becoming Flynn's secret mistress . . . But Flynn wants a wife, not a mistress, and when Flynn sets his heart on something, nothing can stand in his way . . .… (mehr)

The Summer Bride
4 Stars

Patrick Flynn, a self-made shipping mogul, is determined to marry the most perfect lady in London. Little does he know that the woman for him is not the elegant and aristocratic lady with whom he has nothing in common, but the fiery and feisty Daisy Chance who would rather build her own business than marry. Fortunately for Flynn and Daisy, love finds a way and the two soon embark on an amorous adventure together.

After the disappointment of the previous book, this installment ends the series on a high note as Daisy and Flynn's romance has the intimacy, sensuality, and emotion missing from Jane and Zach's story.

Concealed beneath his gregarious nature and flamboyant clothing, Flynn is a stalwart and steady man who truly cares about others. Daisy is his perfect match with her rough exterior, ambition, and determination hiding an empathetic woman afraid to give her trust and her heart. Flynn does everything in his power to show Daisy her true worth and there are some truly touching scenes between them.

Overall, the Chance Sisters is a wonderful series highlighting that the bonds of family and friendship have little to do with blood and everything to do with heart.

A disappointment. This romance between Daisy and Flynn had such great possibilities, it could have soared, but instead the book settles for the mundane reality of life. The end felt contrived. I was hoping for surprises, but instead an ending full of practicality. ( )

The pigheadedness of the main couple really started wearing on me (first one and then the other), which caused the 3rd quarter or so to drag and had me losing my investment in HEA, but there was a nice wrap up of the entire series in the end which helped save it, so I'm going to go ahead and still give it 4 stars. Plus I'm just a sucker for an Irish hero. =D ( )

I read the other three books in this series a while ago, but always hesitated with this one though I usually like Anne Gracie's books. I liked Daisy and Patrick in the other books but wasn't sure about a romance between them. I'm glad I finally grabbed this book because it's pretty good.
Daisy is working hard to set up her own dressmaking business, with no interest in finding a man who will end up controlling her and her work. Patrick is trying to work his way up in the world and wants an aristocratic bride, not slum-born Daisy. However, their growing attraction sets all their ambitions to flight, despite their wishes.
Ms. Gracie writes a good story here. It's unusual in Regency romances to not have one side of the main couple be an aristocrat, and I enjoyed the difference. Daisy and Patrick respect each other, and their falling in love is sweet. It rounds out the other Chance sister books nicely, and I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. ( )

I've come to expect a lot from an Anne Gracie book, so for me The Summer Bride was a little disappointing. Flynn seemed pretty tame and not too much happened for a good portion of the book.
Daisy could not seem to get with the idea that she loved Flynn and he loved her, so that went on way too long. I thought the ending was very sweet and satisfying.
3 stars for most of the book, 4.5 stars for the ending. ( )
