Do you want to successfully self-publish in eBook, print, or audiobook formats? There are thousands of new books being published every day, but many self-published books quickly sink to the bottom of the pile. Many authors are frustrated because there are so many options for self-publishing, and they don't know which one to choose or what will be best for their book. Others spend thousands of dollars to publish and end up brokenhearted with the result. But it doesn't have to be this way. I've spent the last seven years self-publishing best-selling fiction and nonfiction books and in 2011, I left my day job to become a full-time author entrepreneur. I've made lots of mistakes along the way, but through the process of self-publishing 17 books, I've learned the most effective way to publish and market your books. In this book, I'll share everything with you. This book includes what you need to know before you self-publish, how to format an eBook, how to market, and much, much more!!!… (mehr)

Joanna Penn provides a slim but informative overview of the tools, processes, and mindset needed to self-publish and market your books. If you want more detailed information on these topics, however, she provides links to her own website and refers you to her other books and weekly podcasts. Nevertheless, this is a solid starting point for burgeoning writers or even experienced authors who are self-publishing for the first time. ( )

Good info. Great for people who are just starting. Good info on audiobooks. ( )

At 81 pages and for free, this book is a must-read.

Before asking anyone to weigh in on any major issue in self-publishing, you must read this small, honest and pragmatic book written by an experienced hand.

An excellent introduction that succinctly--and evidentially--covers the major points of the self-publishing landscape. Furthermore, its hands-on approach includes self-publishing procedures. It lists a plethora of marketing ideas and contains many references other websites/books as well as Penn's website for more detailed content. ( )

This book is very short. There are some useful tips for people who have no clue where to start, but a lot of it is common sense if you know your way around the internet and Scrivener. I was actually looking for information on self publishing as a sole trader publisher in the UK without having to rely on a 3rd party seller because they bleed you dry without you realising it. This was not helpful with that. It also offers advice on covers and design which was relatively useful. It suggests paying for a design but IMO if you have decent Photoshop skills, some imagination and follow a few rules there is no reason why you can't do it yourself and save some money. I've designed a simple cover for something I'm working on and seriously can't tell much difference between mine and a professional one. Perhaps I have an instinct for it as I naturally seemed to follow the guidelines without knowing what they were first. Either that or I am blinded by ego. There are some good points on marketing and self promotion and for print on demand. So a good starting point, but if you are after something specific like I was, not as useful as I would have liked.
