"After the detonation of FANDEMONIUM the gods-as-pop-stars of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE try living in the long dark shadow. Team WicDiv are joined by a stellar cast of guest artists to put the spotlight on each of the gods. Commercial Suicide feels like a side-step at first, in that we seemingly move away from the ongoing story of Wicked + The Divine to see what other gods are up to, in issues drawn by a variety of guest artists. There's also an issue entirely made up of things McKelvie drew for previous issues of Wicdiv. This turns out to be kind of a trick, because a couple of these issues are set in the present day, and develop the evil plan of Ananke. I think if you were more into these characters, you would get more out of them than I did, though I did appreciate the beautiful art of Tula Lotay in the very depressing Tara focus issue.

After the amazing first two volumes, this one was a huge letdown. First, there was very little plot development. Instead, the individual issues that comprised this volume focused on the back stories of each of the various gods. Only the issues involving Tara and Woton, and to a lesser extent Morrigan's, were necessarily plot-relevant. The others were only peripherally so, if even that.

The main thing that I found particularly jarring was that each issue used a different artist so that this volume did not feel like a cohesive whole. This was particularly true for Sakhmet's story, where the art style was so incredibly different from the others that I felt like I was reading a completely different title - not to mention that the handwritten font was incredibly hard to read on my tablet screen. Several characters weren't instantly recognizable from issue to issue because of the different styles.

Overall, a bit disappointing. Given the giant honking cliffhanger that volume 2 ended on and all the burning questions that were unresolved, very little was done in this volume to address any of that. Frustrating, to put it mildly. Hopefully, answers will be coming in the next few issues. ( )

Scattered, but I guess that's expected with 6 issues, 6 artists. Story is still great, but some of the art wasn't for me. ( )

This book was definitely not in the same league as the previous two. Nothing much happened to further the plot.

We did get a little more spotlight on other gods like Tara, Woden, Amaterasu and Sakhmet. I can’t say I really liked any of them but I definitely sympathized a lot with Tara. Her story also has a subtext of cyber bullying, online trolling and how that would affect the mental state of teenagers which seemed very realistic. But I definitely didn’t like what happened to her. We also get to know a little more about who is committing the murders but the motivations are still unclear.

The artwork in this book was a lot different and I now realize it’s due to the guest artists. Though I enjoyed the coloring in Amaterasu’s panel set in Japan, I really didn’t like the style that was used for Sakhmet’s story.

Overall, I am not very impressed with this volume. But I’m definitely going to continue with the series coz I’m totally invested now. ( )
