This book is one in a series of books that is geared to teach children lessons while providing fun and interesting content. In this book there are two stories, and in each story Martin has to work his way through the problems and find a positive way to deal with the situation. In the first story Martin is away on a camping trip. One of the other campers, Alex, has a jar of green slime and is planning to slime someone. He ends up pouring the slime over Martins head. Martin wants revenge and gets his own slime, but the camp cook ends up using it when preparing a camp meal. In the second story Martins father wants Martin to help him fix an old lawn mower but Martin isn’t quite interested in learning. Finally Martins father gets Martin to help, and after they are unsuccessful at getting the lawn mower working Martin and his father take it to a repair shop. There Martin learns all about how to fix lawn mowers and in turn learns to appreciate his father for teaching him to fix things.
Personal Reflection:
Much like the American Girl stories I read, this series of books finds an entertaining way to teach children important lessons through reading. I found this book to be a very easy read and think it would be a great book for children.
Classroom Extension:
-This book could be used to teach children lessons about family.
-This book could be used as a funny tool to get children interested in reading chapter books.
