The Bourne Enigma is the latest book in the Jason Bourne saga. It is the 13th book in the series, which was originally created by master novelist Robert Ludlum. The Bourne Enigma is an exciting story filled with all the elements common in a spy/thriller novel. There is action and adventure in the book, with the main character, Jason Bourne, finding himself constantly in danger and travelling all over the globe. The book has many characters and plot elements, sometimes making things difficult to follow unless you’re an avid spy novel reader. The book seems to require previous knowledge of the previous Jason Bourne books, but as a standalone is a great read. There was a lot of globetrotting within the book, and there seemed to be more characters than were needed. However, fans of the movies as well as the novels will thoroughly enjoy this addition to the spymaster Jason Bourne’s legacy, as he battles not a new enemy, but an old one.
In this book, Jason Bourne receives a message from a fellow spymaster, Russian General Boris Karpov. Karpov sends Bourne a cryptograph that only Bourne can decipher. Contained within is information about an impending global disaster and Bourne must investigate to find out what the disaster is and stop it from happening. The information that Karpov has given Bourne leads him to Ivan Borz, an international arms dealer that Bourne has been hunting for a long time. Jason Bourne then finds himself on an epic chase across the Middle East and the Mediterranean to capture Borz before the unknown disaster occurs. Bourne only has four days to find the arms dealer and bring him to justice before an international crises threatens to tear the world apart.
