A heartwarming story about determination and being grateful. A young African girl and her mother wake up bright and early each morning to go fill pots of water to use for cooking, drinking and bathing. She has to walk four miles to get water from the well. When she returns home she still has to boil the water, so it is safe to use. Despite all her hardship just to get clean water, she is happy and so is her family, as they know there is a lot to be grateful for. They dream of having clean water someday! ( )

This story is about GiGi a young African girl who collects the family water each morning. The story reads like a child at play, starting off with make believe as she tried to command the water to come to her. We get to travel along with her as she walks "so far" to the well alongside her mother. After a long journey to the well, she sees her friends as they have also come to gather water. The journey home is just as long and then they do the household chores. We can see the love between GiGi and her parents, they call her "princess," twirl her around, and saving the last of the water for her. GiGi's dream is that one day clean water will come to them! At the end of the book there are images of real African women and children gathering water and talks about real pursuits to bring dig clean wells around Africa. This story is based on the real life of model Georgie Badiel. ( )
