This book was originally published in 2014, but now has a new cover and is published under the author’s own publishing label. This can be read as a stand-alone if you don’t care about the backgrounds of the other characters that make an appearance and how they got together, or how they relate to Jared and Dan.
The blurb does a good job of explaining the plot so I won’t go into it that much. I’ve read many books by this author and I can say that her writing skills have improved, because this book is basic. It’s an opposite’s attract story. There’s the sexy, flashy, experienced twink, Jared, and the virginal, rugged, but very nice, Dan, who came out only a few months ago. He is smitten by Jared as soon as he lays on him. Jared feels the same but is only looking for a good time. It’s Dan’s kindness and willingness to just be Jared’s friend that finally has Jared opening his eyes to what a good catch Dan is.
When I said this book is ‘basic’, I meant that it has a predictable plot similar to other romance stories, with predictable characters. There’s also a tremendous amount of monologue. A lot of telling rather than showing, and explaining to the readers about what is happening rather than creating a scene through emotions and senses. I liked Jared and Dan, but since they were predictable as was the plot, I couldn’t get into the story that much.
There’s not much to say about Jared and Dan. Dan is the perfect Marty Stu. Loving and protective towards Jared. Jared is the typical, flashy, flirtatious twink that many authors write about in books. Nothing unique about either of them but they are nice characters.
Other than the monologue, which I didn’t care for, the author added in a third pov for a short while. Joseph, Dan’s best friend, had about half a chapter in order to move the scene along, although I’m not sure why the author gave him a pov. The scene was all monologue and didn’t give any good information. I think either having a short scene from Dan’s pov as he’s being rescued or a longer scene with Jared and Stephen would’ve worked better. Joseph’s pov seemed out of place.
Overall, Dangerous Wish is an okay book. It’s a fast read with pleasant characters, but nothing memorable. I don’t know why the book has the ‘dangerous’ title because there’s nothing dangerous about this story. Anyway, I give this book, 3 Stars.
