The dead body discovered in a Seattle dumpster was shocking enough??but equally disturbing was the manner of death. The victim, a high school coach, had been lynched, leaving behind a very pregnant wife to grieve over his passing, and to wonder what dark secrets he took to his grave. A Homicide detective with twenty years on the job, J.P. Beaumont knows this case is a powder keg and he fears where this investigation will lead him. Because the answers lie on the extreme lethal edge of passion and hate, where the wrong kind of love can breed the most terrible brand of justice.… (mehr)

SUMMARY/ EVALUATION:

Was this a racially motivated murder, or something more complicated? J. P. Beaumont and Ron Peters are looking for answers and trusting their instincts—sometimes it’s a good strategy, sometimes it isn’t.
We liked this “episode” also.
I read somewhere that J.A. wrote the first three books of this series on a computer with a publishing program that limited her storage space, and so dictated the length of chapters. I’m looking forward to seeing how more storage space effects the final product. I’ve been content with the chapter lengths and amount of details.

SAMPLE QUOTATION:
From Chapter 1

“I was hung over as hell when Detective Ron Peters and I hit the crime scene at ten after eight on a gray and rainy Seattle Monday morning. Peters, my partner on Seattle P.D.’s homicide squad, was quick to point out that it could have been worse. At least I had some hope of getting better. The black man lying behind the dumpster at the Lower Queen Anne Bailey’s Foods didn’t.
He was dead. Had been for some time. The sickish odor of decaying flesh was thick in the air.
Partially wrapped in a tarp, he lay propped against the loading dock, the whole weight of his body resting on his shoulders, his broad head twisted unnaturally to one side.
The human neck is engineered to turn back and forth and up and down in a multitude of combinations. This wasn’t one of them. I didn’t need the medical examiner’s officer to tell me his neck was broken, but it would require an autopsy to determine if a broken neck was actually the cause of death."

RATING:
4 stars.

This third book in the J P Beaumont series is quite an intriguing mystery. It took a turn I was not expecting. A high school coach is murdered, found with rope marks around his neck. Beau and his partner have to dig deep to discover who hated the coach enough to want him dead. In the process, they uncover some other secrets that end up changing the lives of several others. The book has an exciting end, and will undoubtedly spur readers on to the next book. The audio version is superbly performed by Gene Engene who does an excellent job narrating this series. ( )

Trial by Fury, is the third in the J. P. Beaumont mystery series based in Seattle. Like a lot of mystery stories, this one depends on some huge coincidences. I dislike that. But overall, it’s cheap easy fun reading. Neither great nor awful. ( )
