Angekündigt wurde das Buch mit „ein Thriller mit hundert Prozent Spannungsgarantie“. Da kann ich so nicht bestätigen, denn ich fand, dass es streckenweise doch ziemlich langatmig war.
Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist zwar flüssig zu lesen, aber er ist auch sehr nüchtern. Ich erlebe die Geschichte aus der Sicht von Tara, das war mir aber etwas zu eindimensional.
Da ihr Mann geschäftlich unterwegs war und ihre Kinder auch nicht zu Hause, hatte sich Tara mit ihrer Nachbarin und Freundin Serena verabredet. Aber sie traf nur Lee an, den Mann ihrer Freundin. Sie trinken etwas zusammen und alles andere ist für Tara nicht mehr zu rekonstruieren. Warum aber schleicht sie sich aus dem Haus und tut so, als sei nichts geschehen? Die Ermittlungen der Polizei bringen einen Verdacht auf. Die 17-jährige Tochter Rosie soll ein Verhältnis mit Lee gehabt haben und hat daher ein Mordmotiv.
Tara war mir nicht sympathisch und ihre sich ständig wiederholenden Gedankengänge brachten sie mir auch nicht näher. Natürlich versucht sie herauszufinden, was geschehen ist, aber das tritt auf der Stelle. Aber auch das Vorgehen in der Familie finde ich ein wenig merkwürdig. Rosie ist fast erwachsen, aber eben auch noch nicht so ganz. Da läuft schon mal etwas nicht so, wie man sich das vorstellt. Nur hier finde ich, dass ein Problem herbeigeredet wird.
An sich ist die Idee zur Story ansprechend, aber bei der Umsetzung hapert es, denn ich wurde von Anfang an nicht gefesselt. Erst recht spät kam etwas Spannung auf, nachdem sich einiges als Lüge herausstellte. Das Ende ist allerdings überraschend.
Ich würde sagen: Potential verschenkt. (
