"Morgan Rice has come up with what promises to be another brilliant series, immersing us in a fantasy of valor, honor, courage, magic and faith in your destiny. Morgan has managed again to produce a strong set of characters that make us cheer for them on every page....Recommended for the permanent library of all readers that love a well-written fantasy."

â??Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos (regarding Rise of the Dragons)

From #1 Bestselling author Morgan Rice comes a sweeping new fantasy series.

17 year old Ceres, a beautiful, poor girl in the Empire city of Delos, lives the harsh and unforgiving life of a commoner. By day she delivers her father's forged weapons to the palace training grounds, and by night she secretly trains with them, yearning to be a warrior in a land where girls are forbidden to fight. With her pending sale to slavehood, she is desperate.

18 year old Prince Thanos despises everything his royal family stands for. He abhors their harsh treatment of the masses, especially the brutal competitionâ??The Killingsâ??that lies at the heart of the city. He yearns to break free from the restraints of his upbringing, yet he, a fine warrior, sees no way out.

When Ceres stuns the court with her hidden powers, she finds herself wrongfully imprisoned, doomed to an even worse life than she could imagine. Thanos, smitten, must choose if he will risk it all for her. Yet, thrust into a world of duplicity and deadly secrets, Ceres quickly learns there are those who rule, and those who are their pawns. And that sometimes, being chosen is the worst that can happen.

SLAVE, WARRIOR, QUEEN tells an epic tale of tragic love, vengeance, betrayal, ambition, and destiny. Filled with unforgettable characters and heart-pounding action, it transports us into a world we will never forget, and makes us fall in love with fantasy all over again.

I got this free as an e-book a while ago and finally got around to reading it. This is the first in a series, and I will definitely have to get the rest of them (currently there are 7 I believe). This is set in kind of medieval times, there's royalty and horse-drawn carriages and carts, swords and a rebellion. I was hooked from the beginning and got through this relatively quickly considering I only read it while I'm eating breakfast (I'm a multi-book at one time person lol). Ceres is pretty well developed, and you want her to succeed against all adversity (of which there is plenty). You hate all the characters you're supposed to hate, and cheer for the ones you're supposed to support. The entire thing was well-written and moved quickly. I can hardly wait to see what happens next. *My reviews are generally not specific, as to not give away any spoilers.*

Morgan Rice has a great ability to build worlds and characters that people can relate to and sympathize with.

All in all, just a great book. If you like strong female characters, sword fighting, historical fantasy, or epic tales, then I'd say definitely read this. ( )

Felt more like a fan fiction of teen romance

Tried to be a twilight and game of thrones without courage to do either and I don’t like romance books ( )

Full Review on my blog!

What way to start a series from Morgan Rice, again couldn’t ask for anything more.

Slave, Warrior, Queen, is such a captivating book, I was hooked from the start. It’s well written, great descriptions and moving characters. It made me want to become a warrior and to read more not only of this book but this genre in general.

If you love strong female characters and the rule of ruthless kings, then you will enjoy this book. I can’t wait to pick up the next book in this series :3

I highly recommend it!

Good Old-Time Fantasy in Crowns & Glory
Review of the author's self-published audiobook on Audible (2017) based on her original Kindle eBook (2016)

I don't usually read or listen to Swords & Sorcery & Fantasy but an enthusiastic review by my Goodreads friend A.R. tempted me to try out Morgan Rice's Of Crowns and Glory series and I was not disappointed.

This has elements of the standard evil kingdom vs. common peoples uprising and brings in parts of Gladiator (the film) and Star Wars (esp. the sequel trilogy). There is not much sorcery in the 1st book of the series, but Ceres, the main protagonist, shows the beginnings of some "Force"-like powers and several monstrous fictional creatures appear. It is obviously the set-up for a long saga (there are 8 books in total) and there are some surprising twists already before the end. Once you're hooked it probably will be difficult to not be tempted to read the entire story. Also, it helped to wash away the bad taste of the fan betrayals of the Game of Thrones final season.

The narration by Wayne Farrell was excellent in all voices. Thanks to A.R. for the recommendation! ( )
