What reality should she believe? And did she escape in reality or just in her mind?In a crowded marketplace in Haifa, Lukas's body is wrapped in a bomb, his hand on the detonator. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. I have to admit that I'm a sucker for books that include letters or diary entries, so on that basis alone this book was intriguing. And the premise was interesting (girl in institutional lock-up, accused of horrible crime, but who cannot remember any part of her life prior to the time she starts keeping a written record to remind herself of what's going on "now" and what she's dreaming). The diary entries were creative and interesting reading -- despite some issues with the proofreading, which I attributed to an intention to capture the "voice" of a teenaged writer, at least that was my view until I continued to trip over enough grammar/typo problems in the other portions of the book that I think it just needs some additional proofreading and editing. Sections of the book focused on the other primary character were also interesting and creatively handled. I thought overall that the book has a lot of promise -- the last third or so of the book, however, seemed more confusing than necessary. If that was tightened up, I think the book would hang together better. But it's a genre that's outside of my typical reading ventures, so I can only express my own reaction. ( )

I received this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.

This book is about Lara, a woman in a mental institution who supposedly killed her family; Lukas, a suicide bomber who didn't detonate the bomb; and another woman who was employed by a mysterious woman (she worked in the gardens weeding). Lara has amnesia, and appears to cycle from one reality to the next.

It was intriguing at first but then it got very, very confusing. As it is, I am not sure what exactly the outcome was.

I'm understanding that this book features a character from Mayer's Time Patrol series. If you've read that series, this book might make more sense.

Sort of sad as it was so interesting at first. ( )

This begins with an unconvincing 'teenage girl' voice, obviously American. Yet the concept, the idea of split consciousness, dissociation or amnesia held my attention enough to go on reading, reading until the end in one sitting.

Yet in the end I was left unsatisfied, left with the feeling that the book did not stand alone, answer my questions or take the path through time and mind that I wanted. But then that is the intention. Do I read on? Buy the next book? Or do I pursue the quotes or look inwards for the answer, search that Room that haunts all our dreams found perhaps somewhere on the Fifth Floor.

Yes I enjoyed the book but no I have not yet bought another (I have downloaded the freebees though).

I felt strongly that I would have enjoyed the book as a nonlinear text, or as a gateway text into a nonlinear work. The quotes and references could allow for a self-created nonlinear experience - but this might lead too far into solipsism for purposes of escapist entertainment. ( )

This was a quick read, just 138 pages, but there was a lot packed in to the story. The reader is treated to a similar experience to that of the main character diagnosed with amnesia but who is mostly trying the figure out what is gong on and what everything means. I liked the story and I am interested in reading the other books by this author. ( )

This book was well written and captivating. It involved two main character who seem to have the same DNA but it is not clear whether or not they were in the same nuclear family. The book opened with the female character Lily/Lara being housed in a psychiatric facility having been convicted of killing her parents and siblings with a knife. The other character, Lukas was introduced first as a suicide bomber in the mid east who re thinks his mission and rejects plans to detonate the bomb. The rest of the book followed their progress and eventual reunification at the facility in US What is less clear to me is whether the two were cloned or how they came to share their DNA and why they shared a psychic ability It was also not clear if Lily/Lara's memory was tampered with, causing her to fail to remember what, if anything, she had done. There was also the Legion of Death involved and it was not clear to me how he figured into the plot. These are the reasons I did not give the book a full five stars. ( )
