Part of the reason millions of fans tune in to Law & Order is the gritty realism of its storytelling. The monumentally popular show has included many episodes inspired by actual cases ripped from the headlines. Here are the fascinating and shocking facts behind 25 of the hit show's most popular episodes--and, just as in the television drama, the actual crime is just the beginning, as you follow these cases from the initial stages of the investigation through the trial and up to the often controversial verdicts.--From publisher description.… (mehr)

Synopsis:
A non-fiction book that looks into the cases that inspired episodes from Law and Order.

Rating:

4/5

I really enjoyed the set-up of this book. At the beginning of each section there is a note about the law and order episode inspired by the real life crime and then the book goes into what actually happened. There are also little notes in certain chapters about a certain thing that was said or done in the show versus real life police procedure or law.

As a Law and Order fan I was fascinated to see the true crimes that inspired episodes from the series (many of which I have seen).

The book was well written and the stories were intriguing. I was engaged and hungry for more.

There are pictures in this book but nothing graphic or gory. Mostly pictures of the victims pre-crime or photos/mug shots of the person who was eventually convicted of the crime.

I think if you like true crime books and Law and Order the television series this book will be right up your alley. There is another book specifically for Law and Order SVU which I haven't read yet but would be excited to try as well. ( )

True Stories was a quick read. Can't say it was incredibly, good or bad. It was what it purported to be: summaries of the real crimes that inspired Law and Order Special Victims Unit episodes. The book doesn't really provide any substantial insights, but simply provides easy-to-read, brief summaries of the criminals and their crimes. ( )

Although the book has little to do with the actual LAW & ORDER shows, it does a great job of going "behind the scenes," as it were, of 25 of the show's episodes to explore the true crimes they were based on.

These aren't stories for the faint of heart, but they do pull at the heartstrings. I remember watching many of the episodes the crimes were based on. This is a great book, especially for those interested in true crimes, but anyone will find them fascinating.

The authors have truly done their research and are to be commended. ( )

I was already familiar with the cases featured in this book but I didn't mind reading up on them again. ( )
