She has the opportunity to own her own estate in England if she can open the door to the manor house. Before going she casts her runes, and a man is in the vision and can see her also. When Sophie gets to England, she runs into the man from her vision, Nikolas. She also runs into hounds which were also in her vision. What does it all mean? Will she get the estate? Or will she be killed before she has the chance to try to open the door? I enjoyed this story. I liked Sophie. She gets under Nikolas's skin so easily. I love the one-sided conversations she has in front of him. Nikolas is a little on edge, shall we say? He wants to know what Sophie knows about the hounds. He also wants to know why he saw her in her vision. He gets angry at her for constantly putting herself in the way of danger. I loved their dynamics. It was fun to see who would blink first. The secondary characters were an interesting mix. I liked some of them. Some were just introduced, and we'll see them in future stories. I look forward to seeing them again. Not great, not terrible. There were quite a few really interesting ideas in terms of world-building and the magic but the story was so dominated by the run-of-the-mill PnR that there just wasn't any space left to properly explore any of it. And after finishing this one I am almost positive that the author won't do so in later volumes either. It's not bad as a PnR, but that part is just unoriginal and clichéed. Sophie was pretty dope. She was so good at defending her boundaries and she was so funny and competent. Nikolas was autocratic but fiercely loyal and dedicated to his people. I totally got why they were so into each other. While I thought the romance moved pretty fast, I think Sophie's approach at the end was awesome. I am really looking forward to the rest of this series. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Plot:
After a shooting, witch consultant to the LAPD Sophie needs a break from her job and from the USA. She travels to the UK, hoping to uncover some family history and to use her magic to open a house that has stubbornly remained shut for a very long time. Should she manage to do it, her reward would be the title to the house and the surrounding land. Trouble starts before she ever even gets there and then she meets Nikolas. Only it isn't the first time they met - Nikolas has been appearing to her. And vice versa, apparently. Nikolas brings his own pack of problems and draws Sophie into a long war between the Dark Court and the Light Court.
Moonshadow is a good read, although it didn't completely blow me away. I liked it, but I don't know if the mood will really strike me to continue with the series or delve further into the world this is a spin-off from.
