diverse picture book (shapes, nature/outdoors - for preschool ages 2-6)
* Book prominently features diverse characters: mainly a little Asian-American girl and her Asian-American dad (mom is absent and not mentioned); her friends are also ethnically diverse--two light-skinned and 3 dark-skinned.
* Book would work for preschool storytime. Text is short and sweet, but descriptive and with some nice vocabulary tossed in. Illustrations are colorful and large enough to be enjoyed by a crowd. There is also a couple pages of backmatter at the end explaining how round shapes occur so frequently in nature, if the teacher/librarian had the opportunity to discuss/explore those concepts further.
* Book works with "shape" theme, but would also work in "outdoors/nature."

I really like this book. At the end it has a section of information about round things in nature. It explains why some things are round in nature, for example, eggs, mushrooms, and nests. I think this is wonderful when reading to children. Not only is the story informational itself explaining where she found the round stuff but the book explains why they are this way in nature. I also like the pictures. They are vivid and the colors are bright and cheery. This matches the mood of the story because she is talking about all of things that she loves. The book is so simple and yet so interesting to me. I would recommend this be read to a class. The big message of this book is there is always a reason why something is what it is. ( )

I liked the appreciation of finding roundness in nature and in places one wouldn't expect. The art was very pretty and made the book more fun!

This is a very cute book, to introduce circles to your class. This book starts off by a little girl saying she loves round things. She then explains how all kinds of things are round: an orange, egg, sun, moon, or even curling herself into a round ball. This also shows kids that shapes are everywhere. I also really enjoyed the pictures. ( )
