Throughout this story there are colorful pictures of and different kind of bugs that the reader can measure. The items to measure are placed on a grid and have ants under them for the reader to count. There is also a ruler at the bottom of each page. I liked this book because it had the grid and the ants so the reader could get a ruler and measure themselves with specific unit or they could count the ants. I think this is a great story to use in school because it is interactive for the reader. As they read they are actually doing tasks associated with mathematics. ( ) Introduces math concepts while preparing for the Blowout Bug Jamboree! The measurement unit is the ant (each ant is one inch; there's a little ruler along the bottom of the page, but there are no numbers, just ants). The final spread opens out to twice the book's width to reveal a Buggy-Go-Round. -Length (in ants) -Longest/shortest comparisons -Bar charts and pie charts See also (other math/science books): Bug by Robin Koontz, Lemonade in Winter by Emily Jenkins In this book, we follow along for the preparation of the "Blowout Bug Jamboree." To do so, they have to build a surprise and measure several bugs by using ants as a unit of measure. The reader follows along as they compare sizes and use mathematical language such as shortest and longest. The book shows the making of simple charts as well. They have to try to get all of it done in time for the Blowout Bug Jamboree! I think this is a great and fun book teaching basic and necessary mathematical concepts. The ants need to plan the Blowout Bug Jamboree! But how can they build a thrilling carnival ride for the festival if they don't know how many bugs will come, or how big those bugs will be? This is a colorful and fun-filled introduction to nonstandard measurement, comparison, and organizing and representing data. As caterpillars, butterflies, and other insects are measured and compared in lengths of ants, an amazing plan unfolds. Just in time for the jamboree, the ants put the final touches on the perfect roller coaster, seen in a deluxe gatefold spread. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
