Well-written, but the the "twist" is obvious from the first pages and I never found Mary remotely believable, while Hannah is barely developed at all. Eminently skippable. ( ) I received an ARC of this book from Goodreads. I'd thought the plot summary sounded intriguing- two sisters left orphaned try to survive on their own despite very difficult circumstances. I usually don't read suspense novels or thrillers, so I'm not inclined to buy these types of books; however I did like this book. I thought it was well written, and it kept my interest throughout. The characters were well developed, and the dialogues seemed plausible. I wasn't too fond of the main character, Mary, but I appreciated the challenge the author had in creating her and presenting her with consistency. The plot was good, not too predicable, though I did expect one of the twists. Overall, this was a good read; I think it would appeal to a YA crowd who likes suspense novels. A gripping book about two sisters Mary and Hannah Chase who live a transient existence after the death of their mother. As the sisters struggle for money, blackmail old family members, and burn bridges with old friends, a truth about Mary and Hannah slowly emerges, even as their precarious lives become ever more dangerous. A very suspenseful book - those who enjoy mysteries and thrillers would like this book. When their mother dies, the Chase girls are on their own and homeless, with fiercely protective Mary at the helm. The Sisters Chase unfolds over the following ten years as Mary and Hannah (“Bunny”) crisscross the country as nomads, never staying long enough for people to start asking questions, never staying long enough to have to answer for the lengths Mary will go to protect Hannah and her own heart. Full review: http://lisaannreads.wpengine.com/review-the-sisters-chase/ The story of two sisters with a surprise ending you won't see coming. I really enjoyed reading this book. I got into it right away and kept reading it until I was finished. An excellent read that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you like family stories with secrets, emotional reads and women's fiction, this is a book I would recommend. The hardscrabble Chase women-Mary, Hannah, and their mother Diane-have been eking out a living running a tiny seaside motel that has been in the family for generations, inviting trouble into their lives for just as long. Eighteen-year-old Mary Chase is a force of nature: passionate, beautiful, and free-spirited. Her much younger sister, Hannah, whom Mary affectionately calls "Bunny," is imaginative, her head full of the stories of princesses and adventures that Mary tells to give her a safe emotional place in the middle of their troubled world. But when Diane dies in a car accident, Mary discovers the motel is worth less than the back taxes they owe. With few options, Mary's finely tuned instincts for survival kick in. As the sisters begin a cross-country journey in search of a better life, she will stop at nothing to protect Hannah. But Mary wants to protect herself, too, for the secrets she promised she would never tell-but now may be forced to reveal-hold the weight of unbearable loss. Vivid and suspenseful, The Sisters Chase is a whirlwind page-turner about the extreme lengths one family will go to find-and hold onto-love. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
