This is actually probably a three and a half star read, but I decided to bump it because I did enjoy the story. I found it interesting that the story alternated between the point of view of the widow and the mistress. I wasn't surprised by the twist and found myself somewhat unhappy with the resolution. I liked the widow and thought it was terrible to inflict so much pain with so little happiness in return. However, all in all, it was a good read. ( ) Ok. This book was too long. I listened to an unabridged recording (8 discs) and things didn’t start getting interesting until the middle of disc 6. A lot of the dialogue was corny for me too. Jacks and her husband James can’t get pregnant. Why not adopt? What about IVF? Those options aren’t explored. Instead James goes to Maui with another woman and ends up dead. You surely have other books to read. Read them first. You will thank me later Jacks and James have a good marriage with its ups and downs. Until one day her life is turned upside down by two police officers give her the news of his death. But that’s not it. He died in an accident in a city he wasn’t supposed to be alongside a woman he wasn’t supposed to be with. Enter Nick, the dead woman Dylan’s fiancé who is shocked by the truth as well. On his insistence, Jacks decides to retrace the dead couple’s steps to figure out what went wrong in her life. The story is told in multiple timelines and both Jacks and Dylan’s POVs. I liked the way both the women characters are developed. I thought Jacks handled her grief with a lot of courage even though I am unsure of the way she did it. Dylan’s struggle to choose between Nick and James is also written well. There are a couple of interesting twists that made me want to read till the end. The book overall was good, just not great. This is seemingly in contrast with the high reviews this book has but I guess my expectations have gone up these days and I am not satisfied easily. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Elementary school teacher Jacqueline Jacks Morales's marriage was far from perfect, but even in its ups and downs it was predictable. Familiar. Or at least she thought it was, until two police officers showed up at her door with devastating news. Her husband of eight years, the one who should have been on a business trip to Kansas, had suffered a fatal car accident in Hawaii. And he wasn't alone. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
