Nice. The first story, Street Cred, is new - written for the chapbook, out of outtakes from Neogenesis. The second is Wise Child, which I really like - originally a free story on Baen.com. Street Cred is about the Road Boss - Val Con and Miri - on Surebleak; it illuminates more of Surebleak's culture, and a bit more of Liaden culture as well. The distinction between a personal matter, as in Balance, and matters that are dealt with by contract. Nice. Well, no, not nice, rather bleak, but at least it ends more or less happily - even the Council of Clans sees sense. Wise Child is Tolly's more-or-less origin, and his work with an AI ship - a kidnapped Carresens ship, that he mentored to independence (and used her to gain his own independence as well). It does give more information about what's behind his interactions with Theo's ship. Good story, too. ( )
