Harper Chase has just become the most powerful woman in the NHL after the death of her father Clifford Chase, maverick owner of the Chicago Rebels. But the team is a hot mess-underfunded, overweight, and close to tapping out of the league. Hell-bent on turning the luckless franchise around, Harper won't let anything stand in her way. Not her gender, not her sisters, and especially not a veteran player with an attitude problem and a smoldering gaze designed to melt her ice-compacted defenses. Veteran center Remy "Jinx" DuPre is on the downside of a career that's seen him win big sponsorship's, fans' hearts, and more than a few notches on his stick. Only one goal has eluded him: the Stanley Cup. Sure, he's been labeled as the unluckiest guy in the league, but with his recent streak of good play, he knows this is his year. So why the hell is he being shunted off to a failing hockey franchise run by a ball-buster in heels? And is she seriously expecting him to lead her band of misfit losers to a coveted spot in the playoffs? He'd have a better chance of leading Harper on a merry skate to his bed . . . "This control thing is all well and good, Harper, but one day you're going to have to recognize that you can't make every call yourself. People want to help you. People want to love you."

This was so so so good.

I went into this expecting a cute little hockey romance with a little bit of plot, but mostly spice, and we'd all live happily ever after. The End.

BUT WHAT I GOT was a really well written story with complicated characters and relationships and - okay there was some spice in there too.

I laughed. I cried. I clutched my pearls. I need to keep reading this series.

P.S. I'd let Remy DuPre make me a sandwich any day. ( )

I loved this so much; I've found my catnip. Not only is it a romance novel, but it has hockey AND blatant feminism. Reading this during the playoffs was a great decision on my part. Meader's writing surprised me. She's hilarious and eloquent, and I really enjoyed this one. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series and everything else she's written. Full review to follow. ( )

Hmmm, let me be crisp on this review. There was really nothing to do about this book. It was well-written, the characters were all just enough, the book was just enough, I didn't get Remy for about 30% but once I did he was sweet, and the book could've easily wrapped at 63%. Seriously, at 63% we know that Remy wants to retire after the season, settle down and be a stay at home dad. Harper has ambitions and wants to continue to build the Chicago rebel hockey team. Maybe to prove she can, maybe cause she's in love with it. She needs a man to support that or no man at all. I feel like I needed to smack both their foreheads at this point and say "time to discuss the future you idiots." It's a case of a slightly over mediocre book, which I read at a slightly bad time. (See: whole post on book grouchy)

I have to be honest, I had some stuff going on today, was quite busy and when I sat down to read I had no earthly clue what CR I was reading initially. I actually thought I might be between books. It was about a second before the book opened I remembered. I just think that's probably not the best sign...

Oh, but maybe I'll review it. It was a boss-employee relationship but the woman is the boss, and the man is the pursuer, generally. Nothing about this tickled my fancy including the sweaty locker room scene with, in all likelihood, pads still on. Light references to puck bunnies.

I have a crush on the actual interesting character, Bren, in this book. I also find her sisters interesting. ( )

Ms. Meader is the go to author for sexy. Her characters are an irresistible combination of sweet and salty with a pinch of humor thrown in for good measure. Irresistible You is more than a hot tamale read. It tackles real issues. Issues like sexism, self - doubt, pride and second chances. Harper and Chase are the spark of this heated ensemble. Both are desperately trying to prove their worth in a sport that's already written them off. For Remy, hockey is a way of life. His world is the sport that made him a star, but age and reputation precede him and have landed him in a less than stellar position. Harper, is a woman making her way in a man's world. Faced with a failing team, family upheaval and a shocking betrayal she sets out to make her mark. What's a girl to do when faced with a frustrating, egotistical, sexy man? Fall in love, of course. Breaking the ice takes on a whole new meaning. ( )
