It's Open Mic Night at the Story Zoo and the dogs are up to tell their tales in this hilarious graphic novel for young readers. At the Story Zoo, you get to tell any story you want in front of the live audience, as long as it's about you. And tonight is dog night. So sit back, relax, and let these dogs tell their tales. We've got some hilarious but quite touching stories from dogs of all kinds, including a bulldog who doesn't wanted to be judged by his looks; a bloodhound who loses her power of scent and turns to a dog called Surelick Holmes for help; an energetic poodle who saves the day with her yapping; and a stray who takes fetching to a whole new level. These stories will make you laugh, make you cry and maybe even make you howl at the moon. Whether you're looking for smart, funny, sweet, sharp, silly or just plain fuzzy, The Story Zoo is going to be your new favorite haunt. -- Amazon.com.… (mehr)

A fun concept well executed that should appeal to elementary graphic novel readers. ( )

Dog Night at the Story Zoo is a clever little graphic novel that should appeal to 3rd-5th graders. This book is about where the animals go to tell their stories, and tonight is Dog Night. Four brave animals get to step up and tells their crazy story about their adventure. t is bright and colorful with an engaging artistic style from the illustrator. The book uses a good amount of humor and has a few jokes that are for more adult type readers. This book is a good read for upper elementary grades and has some great illustrations and cant believe it is considered a comic book. ( )

Have you ever wondered what your pet does after you go to bed at night? Well, your dog or cat or turtle just might visit the Story Zoo. The Story Zoo is a place where the animals go to tell their stories, and tonight is Dog Night. Four brave pooches get to step up on stage and share their adventures.

The Bottom Line: These silly tales are perfect for kids in middle school who enjoy comics and graphic novels. This book is very sturdy with colorful, glossy pages making it just right for repeated usage such as at libraries or schools. It's a very quick read too.

Dog Night at the Story Zoo is a clever little graphic novel that should appeal to 3rd-5th graders. The dogs telling their stories are sympathetic, intelligent, and resourceful. Children will enjoy their tales of finding the right people to love them and the adventures they go through to get there. There's even a nod to Sherlock Holmes in a mystery tale. The animals each have distinct personalities and the illustrations fit the stories quite well. With action and facial expressions that personify all the critters, they come alive for the reader. The book also has humor and puns with references to familiar nursery rhymes. It even includes cute poetry. I liked it a lot and can see it having great appeal to young readers. ( )
