"The book offers a different experience from the film since it can obviously go into much more detail," says Rob Zombie. "The book and the film really complement each other." From the singular mind of horror maestro Rob Zombie comes a chilling plunge into a nightmare world where evil runs in the blood... The Lords of Salem Heidi Hawthorne is a thirty-seven-year-old FM radio DJ and a recovering drug addict. Struggling with her newfound sobriety and creeping depression, Heidi suddenly receives an anonymous gift at the station-a mysteriously shaped wooden box branded with a strange symbol. Inside the box is a promotional record for a band that identifies themselves only as The Lords. There is no other information. She decides to play it on the radio show as a joke, and the moment she does, horrible things begin to happen. The strange music awakens something evil in the town. Soon enough, terrifying murders begin to happen all around Heidi. Who are The Lords? What do they want? As old bloodlines are awakened and the bodies start to pile up, only one thing seems certain: all hell is about to break loose.… (mehr)

I went into this book hoping to get some questions from the movie answered. Well it did but it then brought up more questions. ( )

Dumb. I haven't seen the movie, but it will have to have a lot of style to make up for this lack of substance. ( )

Well, that was certainly no holds barred. It didn't try to trick you or throw you any curves. It was just unabashedly what it was. Being as I usually don't much like horror in novel form, I'm impressed. I'd include a trigger warning, but if you are sensitive to that sort of thing, you should probably not read something connected to Rob Zombie. ( )

I had high hopes for this novel. Had I known (at the time of purchase) this book was an adaptation from his screenplay I think it would've stayed on the shelf and I would've opted to watch the movie instead. http://www.nicoleolea.com/the-lords-of-salem-a-novel-book-review/ ( )

I will freely admit that I am not a Zombie fan. As a horror fan, I had high expectations for his films, but most (with the exception of his remake of Halloween) fall flat and dull for me. I watched Lords of Salem before having the chance to read the novel and being highly disappointed in the film, I fell back on my mantra of "The book is better." I was able to find a copy at my local library and read it while giving commentary to my boyfriend. Needless to say, I was no more impressed with the book than I was with the film. It attempted to be deep and awesome while not explaining much of anything. I felt as though it was a witch story mashed together with a demon/supernatural story and while both could easily mix well, somebody somewhere dropped the ball on plot development. ( )
