When a talent show is announced, Sandy is insistent she and her friend Andy must sign up, but Andy is concerned because he cannot juggle or hula hoop or anything that seems like a talent. The two decide to dance together, and Andy comes to the rescue the day of the talent show when Sandy gets stage fright.

This is a sweet book about friendship and helping one another. A small quibble I have is that none of the dialogue is in quotation marks, which seems like a misstep -- young readers should see proper punctuation. The text is simple enough so that beginning readers can practice with this title. Sandy's stage fright is shown only in illustrations, so that might need a bit of explanation from an adult helper.

Personally, I'm not the hugest fan of Tomie dePaola's art style, so I didn't care much for the illustrations here. ( )
