A great slow burn alternative yet contemporary royal romance. Worth a read. ( )

OK, this is a perfectly fine drawn out misunderstandings and real problems keep the couple emotionally apart for the duration of the book tale, but it could have been more, could have had a couple working through real issues together instead of manufactured ones keeping them distant. ( )

I just loved the tropes at play here (royalty, marriage of convenience, ancient magic in the modern era, age-difference romance... God, the list goes on). And I loved the characters: the slightly mercenary heroine who decides to marry for ambition first & love second, her best friend who fights off the paps with her flip flops, her prince who's forgotten how to let people into his inner life, his genderqueer witch royal heir!! The book suffers from some common romance issues, like misunderstandings that go on too long, and the heroine constantly rehashing her motivations and doubts in her narrative POV. Because of these issues, I had to ding off a star, but I still want to read the next book ASAP. ( )

A Perfect Romance

I love alternate history, and though my knowledge of British history begins and ends somewhere around Henry VIII, this was an excellent alternate history and romance.

I loved that Amelia and Arthur were allowed to be imperfect people, and that George was allowed to exist as she was, without question. There was just enough romantic tension to be believable and the heat level was just right for those of us who prefer our romances to be story with a side of sex, and not the other way around.

I’m looking forward to George’s book! ( )

This was a quick, enjoyable read. I've been lightly watching real world royal romance (Harry and Meghan), and this is a book that takes the political and practical difficulties of joining a royal family very seriously. (Anyone seen Princess Sofia lately? No?) The heroine is a minor noble with a budding career in science, and she is moved by the opportunity to help her people and young women in STEM more than by any desire to be a royal. She is smart, the other characters are well-drawn, and it was fun to read. I downgraded it a bit for the choice to have her get pregnant before the wedding, but it was otherwise fun. ( )
