Meet Katherine Johnson, a brilliant mathematician who worked at NASA in the early 1950s until retiring in 1986. Katherine's unparalleled calculations (done by hand) helped plan the trajectories for NASA's Mercury and Apollo missions (including the Apollo 11 moon landing). She is said to be one of the greatest American minds of all time. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

This book does a great job informing the reader about her childhood and how she became a mathematician. It covered how accomplishments and how important her role was in the quest to place a man on the moon. I felt the book did a poor job of conveying how difficult it was for Katherine Johnson, a black female in the 19602, to attain these achievements. I am comparing the book to the movie "Hidden Figures" that showed how Katherine had to use a separate bathroom located in other building across the campus and how she was treated by co-workers. the only thing the book says on this is that "only good jobs for college-educated African American women at the time were teaching or nursing jobs." At the end of the book is information related to the topic of careers that use math and other stars and space facts. ( )
