Both brought me up to date with the latest statistical thinking and brought me on a trip through baseball history. Fascinating, with plenty of controversial takes. ( ) I have always looked forward to Jaffe's Hall of Fame work from back in the Baseball Prospectus days. He is also a solid twitter follow. This book sums up all his current arguments on the Baseball Hall of Fame, as well as entries on the HOF members and those standing by for the call. Some of those Veteran's Committee picks are simply terrible. Jaffe justly notes that the older players are WAY over-represented in the HOF, and (IMO) we need to either elect many more of our contemporaries or boot some of the dead guys. The most obscure (to me) but best guy I 'discovered' was Charlie Gehringer 2B for the Tigers. Never heard of him, Jaffe states he's the 5th best 2B EVER. Fun read leading up to the 2018 season. Getting 6 guys in the 2018 class helps the back log. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Jaffe provides a definitive guide to the greatest players in baseball history, and the Baseball Hall of Fame. He believes that the current standards for election and an arcane selection process has created some glaring mistakes, and presents a new, more objective system.
