Welp, what I was afraid would happen at the end of the last volume is exactly what did happen. The only times Sam shows up on page is when he's asleep, and the primary focus in the comic is on how Matt is reacting to what happened to Sam and Matt's feelings/guilt on the matter. Sam has zero agency or input or thoughts about what happened to him on page before he disappears entirely, leaving the last 2/3rds of the volume to focus solely on Matt.

That last 2/3rds finally answers the question of how the mindwipe of Daredevil's civilian identity happened and why Matt has allowed it all to stand as is, and I...don't like it. It seems clear to me that Soule wanted to write his own take on Daredevil without dealing with the character of Matt Murdock as he currently existed when Soule inherited him. So he reset everything back to status quo and in the process made Matt into a lying, gaslighting abuser who feels that ultimately his actions are justified because he thinks that's the only way he can achieve his "goals."
