Out of the Darkness starts off with a truly horrifying experience. Sarah and her friends are visiting haunted houses on Halloween-such a typical teenage event. But what happens at the haunted house changes all their lives. As teenagers, they did not know how to handle the trauma. They pulled away from each other, became closed off, made poor life choices, etc. This leads to Tyler and Sarah breaking up and going in different directions. 10 years later they are reunited by another tragedy. Both are still upset that the other never reached out to them. They feel like the feelings must be gone because neither ever called. I understood their reactions as teenagers, but after 10 years they should have been more mature.

The murder mystery was interesting (even though its pretty obvious who the killer is) and overall, its a well woven plot line. I found the dialogue to be really cheesy though and it was distracting from the story. Honestly, the dialogue made me not really care about any of the characters. If the killer had managed to kill them all, I would have been like "Meh. Whatever" and that is NOT how you want to feel about the main characters in a story!

If you like mysteries, suspense stories, and Law and Order type reads, I think you would find Out of the Darkness a fine read. It was a good story, but I didn't care for the character development (or lack there of).

Fantastical Romance

The horror of madmen on a killing spree lasts long after the event took place on what should have been a fun filled Halloween outing. Two escaped killers embark on a murderous spree in a haunted house, and six high school friends will never be the same.

Out of the Darkness provides a quick weekend read for those of us who like romance and suspense. There is a continuation of the evil that started the Halloween night so long ago, and this time the evil returns for the group of six friends. The reader is along for the ride of learning why the evil chose to return and is left questioning why evil begins in the first place.

The main characters are likable, and we hope they will be successful in evading the deranged killer. There is fast paced action in Out of the Darkness.

I made it to page 100 and had to stop reading it. I literally could not get into the story or the characters at all. Believe me I love a good serial killer who dunnit type of book but for some weird reason I just don't care who is hacking up the grown adults who survived the haunted house massacre. I don't know if the writing seems forced or what but I couldn't connect with it.

A scary rush of a thrilling ride, typical Heather Graham, spectacular writing expected from such a versatile, seasoned writer. A gripping question of why was he afraid to go inside the haunted house, leaves you wanting to know more, but not sure you should turn the page to find out what’s on the other side (oh… go on, you’ll love it!). Lots of hints of terrible things to come, mysteries that will need solving and spooky things to hold your breath for. The twists and turns in plot; excellent character arcs developing, and just that waiting moment, when they all go in… leaving you to wonder if they will all come out?

I absolutely love Heather Graham! Her books never fail to entertain and thrill! Prepare for the ride of your life! ( )
