OMG. This book is adorable. I mean, Fred is making a valentine and all of his friends want to know why. Then Bunny (who looks like the bunny from "The Secret Life of Pets" in my opinion) shares all of the ways that giving a valentine is gross.

It made me laugh out loud (because I agree, paper hearts do look like butts) and it made me smile. Good things in a book that is for sure. Kiddos will love this one. ( )

I love this series. The ghosts, goblins and witches learn from a cute and cuddly bunny what love is. You know, kissing on the lips. But Fran knows it is much deeper and lovelier than that. This book is just … ahhhh. It's fun, it’s lovely, it’s full of laughs.

That monstrous crew, the Fright Club, return in this second picture-book devoted to their adventures, this time confronting the terrifying reality of... love! Fran K. Stein in making a Valentine, something his fellow monsters (and other cute members of the club) have trouble understanding. Surely love, with its mushiness and kissing, is gross? Or is it...?

Like its predecessor, Valensteins pairs an engagingly spooky tale with appealing, dark-toned illustrations. Young children will enjoy the silly humor, as the members of the club try to figure out what the pink heart Fran K. Stein is cutting out, is meant to be. Could it be a pink butt? The teeth of a frightening mask? The conclusion, in which our hero and his lady love are labeled "weird" for sitting and looking at the moon, had me finishing up the story with a chuckle. Recommended to anyone who read and enjoyed Fright Club, or who is looking for spookier Valentine's Day fare for the picture-book set. ( )

The Fright Club is always ready for a good scare, but something is amiss in the club house. Fran K. Stein is acting strange and not his usual self. He is making something and being very sneaky about it. The others monsters want to know what he is making. Could it be a bat with fangs, or a paper butt? No, it is a Valentine! Eww. The monsters all know this love and all things mushy! I would recommend this for any collection owning others by Ethan Long. It is a great read aloud and the characters expressions and reactions are great for reading to a large or small group. The illustrations are dark but not too dark and portray the characters in a way that is funny and not too scary. ( )
