She was once his liar. He was once her savior. Cross Donati fills his days with the mafia, family, and responsibility. The wild boy is a distant memory. A waiting prince now sits in his place. An old debt puts the gunrunner right back into the path of his past, but he only sees his future. Every king needs a queen. Catherine Marcello learned how to stand on her own, and she no longer needs saving. The sly girl is far more dangerous now. A broken promise taught her how to live again. One conversation puts the hustler face to face with her first love, but she only sees heartache. Every God needs a prayer. The scars of their history runs deep. Every lie told, and each secret spilled hurts a little bit more. Love does not care. Love will not wait. So, why does life keep standing in the way? Contains mature themes.… (mehr)

This book is... Amazing!!
Cross and Catherine.
For anyone who has read BK's previous books you are already familiar with the complicated background of Cross and the daunting powerful family of Catherine, so together it is bound to be a bumpy ride.
If you are picking up this book as your first from BK, personally I would recommend that you read at least book 1 in this series, 'Always', it sets the scene for this book, dealing with their early years while at school, and events that take place in that story set in motion the events in this book and explain their history and why they are the people they are today.
This book picks up, I think 7 years after the events at the end of 'Always', which was quite devastating. Our couple are obviously older and a lot has happened in their time apart.
They 'bump' in to each other and they start seeing each other again and secrets are revealed and emotion scars are prodded and as much as they can heal from the past they still have a huge problem in the name of 'Dante', Catherine's formidable father.
Cross is his same cheeky self although it's suicidal in front of Dante. Catherine has sorted herself out but still has some serious issues with her family.
It was fantastic to have appearances from characters from previous books from other series, including Cara, Dante's brothers as well as Catherine and Cross' cousins and siblings, hinting at storylines for future books.( We hope).
At times I wanted to shout at Catherine 'just tell him' but the problem is she has the reputation of being sly and this is due to lies told in the past, whether it be by omission or flat out untruths and one lie leads to another until in the end it's a houseful of lies and how do you untell one lie without bringing the whole house down.
Cross is amazing, he loves Catherine completely and utterly and he is fearless about it.
There is a lot going on in this book, I thought the situation with Calisto was particularly clever, bringing something from his past that affects their current lives and of course you have the whole issue of his and Cross'relationship.
I also liked the fact that although in the time apart they will have been involved with other people, this isn't dwelt on or rehashed, I am not a fan of the H/h loving 'the one' but sleeping with other people but this was tastefully done and reasonable considering the time apart and the state of their relationship.
I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It does have a HEA, although there is a book 3 where their story continues. ( )

Revere follows Cross Donati and Catherine Marcello several years after Always. Though they've always felt that draw to one another they've spent the last several years apart, leading separate lives within their respective family's syndicate. They're brought together again by chance and an affair seems like the solution, at least for a time. As they rehash the time spent apart it is obvious they have grown and yet, they still fit together like two puzzle pieces. Two mafia children don't just get together though, there must be blood shed, favors, lies, and promises, and even then the love will need strength to survive. Cross and Catherine take on the battle of proving that the love they share really is for always.

"So much. Too much. Promises. Always."

Cross and Catherine are easily my favorite book couple of 2017. There is no such thing as easy romance between these two, but that's sort of why I like them. They have fights, they run and hide, they have mafia drama between their families, and they always have fiery passion and fierce love. Their romance and their lives as individuals feel realistic, for children born into mafia families that is. Revere, the second installment in the Cross Catherine series by Bethany-Kris, is predominantly focused on the lives that Cross and Catherine lead separately after their separation at the end of Always. Time has passed and we are offered glimpses of what has happened in each character's life as they moved forward on their own. Nothing can keep these two apart though and when they come together again sparks fly just as they did when they were younger.

"Like crushed velvet and liquid gold. Silky, hot, and expensive. A cost she didn't know if she could afford. A cost like her heart."

Bethany-Kris shows off her versatility with this series, writing from the perspective of teenagers in the first release and then aging the writing style with the characters now in their mid twenties. Cross is as arrogant as ever, as he so likes to remind everyone, but he also shows his maturity through much of the novel. He is a made man, through and through, but he keeps his promises with a strength few characters ever have. Catherine, on the other hand, has changed drastically. She's independent, she's stubborn and show's strength she didn't previously have, but she's also still a scared young woman. Her life is marked by highs with Cross and lows without him, so it is no surprise that taking him on again presents a lot of confusion and trepidation for her. Revere is all about her growth, her embracing that the changes she has made have made her better able to take on a relationship with Cross again. Cross, though he still holds a large part of the story line, is in more a supportive role, proving to Catherine that when he said Always he meant it. I loved his scenes, there is so much action in this book that really gives it even more of the Mafia Romance vibes, but it is obvious he is focused on winning Catherine back from start to finish.

"Seven years was a long time to wait. She was ready to go home."

I really could say so much about the journey Revere takes you on, but as a reader you really should find out on your own. Bethany-Kris easily is my favorite organized crime/mafia genre author, she knows how to tell a story and bring it to life, bringing you into the character's world and spitting you out only when the story is complete. Revere was entertaining, action-packed, filled with drama, and has probably my favorite ending ever. Seriously, I looked at my boyfriend and told him to take notes as I read it out loud.

Well, it is fair to say that my love of Cross has continued to grow. And, I actually like Catherine a bit more this time. Lots of these moments concerning the different families. Secrets revealed, many confrontations and suspense.

I'm typical fashion this author kept me on my toes with how realistic she writes this world in.

Now, on to the conclusion. ( )
