In this instalment, the triad of Daisy, Esther and Susan are increasingly distracted by their adulting lives, and begin to drift apart. I gave this volume 5 stars because between the madcap adventures of the college-aged girls is the poignant struggle of women to stay together as friends even as the world demands more of them. That, and the laugh-out-loud moments ("Are you ready to take advantage of a man's terrible misfortune?" "That's why I get out of bed in the morning!") and the panels I actually had to photograph and share ("You've got some schmutz on you"). Giant days continues to entertain, move, and inspire me! ( )

These books always make me laugh out loud. I loved everything about Volume 8 except for the cliffhanger. I need to know my girls will be OK! ( )

graphic fiction, series: issues 29-32. Chapter 29: Emilia transfers into Esther's literature class and steals her spotlight, but then also rescues her from the philandering Prof. Lord when Esther drinks to much at a department party; Ed tries out a new "look" and goes on a date with Cathy. Chapter 30: Daisy makes plans to visit with Ingrid's family over Easter break while Esther and Susan grow tired of living with Ingrid's bad habits around the house; Esther sees Susan out with McGraw shortly before McGraw finally breaks up with Emilia. 31: Susan and Esther ask McGraw and Ed to help them patch things up with Daisy after fighting about Ingrid's running up the utility bills, but the boys also need to fix things with the spurned Emilia and her muscled hermano. 32: the ladies' landlord is not providing required maintenance; they think about new living arrangements for next year. ( )

This book had so many laugh-out-loud moments. The bits with McGraw vs. the landlord had me in stitches. I'm going to need more of these, soon. ( )

Esther struggles when McGraw's girlfriend threatens her spot as favourite student in her Romantic literature class, Daisy continues to grapple with the realities of her relationship with Ingrid and how it affects her roommates, Susan's secret is outed, and all three girls have to figure out their living situation for their third and final year.

There's a bit more angst and conflict in this one but still utterly soothing reading. Fans of the series will not be disappointed. ( )
