In my opinion I didn't like this book but I don't have a love for pirates. The language was easy to understand and it flowed very well. The writing engages the readers and allows kids interested in pirates to learn a number of new things about them. The table of contents is also very useful if a kid only wanted to know about a certain time period. Another helpful thing is the illustrations of pirate maps to help the kids see what it was truly like to be a pirate. Their maps look a lot different than a map of the United States or the world. It was interesting to learn the hardships pirates went through and to see how they spoke though like "Ahoy there. Were from a Barbados ship, from America" We don't typically say "Ahoy there." ( )
