Penguin's Selected Stories edition captures 33 stories by Saki, approximately a third of all that he wrote, all fairly short. These are simple stories of overly elaborate practical jokes, blackmail or revenge, sometimes at the expense of snobs and sometimes just for a laugh. It's only the window dressing that makes them interesting: various animal encounters, elaborate setups, etc. The stories worth comment ,with asterisks on the few worth a second read:

Tobermorey - a cat learns human speech, and the humans are regretful.
Mrs. Packletide's Tiger - a high-society woman one-ups her nemesis, but not her hired help.
The Unrest-Cure - a prank about murdering Jews. Maybe this was in better taste pre-Holocaust, but I hope not.
Srendi Vashtar - magical realism? A polecat-ferret is not a wolverine.
The She-Wolf* - pranking settles an account with irrationalism. I actually liked this one.
Laura - an incurable prankster won't leave off, whatever the circumstances.
The Open Window - might have worked better if I hadn't learned what to anticipate from this author.
The Schwartz-Metterklume Method - a woman plays a prank when she's mistaken for a governess.
The Blind Spot* - a more impressive story about new evidence in a murder case.
A Touch of Realism - another tiresome prank that targets Jews.
The Stalled Ox* - more innocently fun, an artist capitalizes on an invading ox.
The Story-Teller - possibly expressing Saki's opinion about stories, assuming his audience is children.
The Lumber-Room - Saki torments the fictional version of an aunt from his childhood.
The Toys of Peace - is it parents or children who conflate peace with boredom?
The Wolves of Cernogratz* - would make an excellent closing chapter for something more fully developed.
The Interlopers - two men realize the futility of their quarrel over a parcel of land.
Excepting Mrs. Pentherby - presents a thesis that women only bicker and quarrel, and thus must be controlled.
The Mappined Life - a more direct takedown of snobbish society, no pranks required.
Shock Tactics* - consequences for a mother who reads all of her son's correspondence.
The Sheep - if you're clumsy or not man enough, you might as well just die, apparently.
The Cupboard of the Yesterdays - absurdly suggesting the worst part of war is the subsequent peace. ( )
