This picture book recounts the emotional story of Maggie the elephant, who once lived in the Alaska Zoo. Following the death of her elephant companion Annabelle, Maggie suffered from extreme loneliness before she was placed in the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in California. Now Maggie thrives in friendship and the warmth of her new home. ( ) An Elephant in Alaska? Annabelle and Maggie were two elephants that lived in the Alaska Zoo. The cold didn’t bother them as long as they had each other, but when one of them dies how will the other one survive? The author and illustrator create a heartwarming story about an elephant who is rescued from a zoo where she is no longer able to thrive. This title would be a good read aloud for ages 5-7. The author provides curriculum connections in the back of the book, as well as a website to explore additional resources. This title would also work well for older readers who are reading below grade level. The questions in the back of the book would provide further reading comprehension assistance. "Elephants are social animals. Maggie and Annabelle used to live together at the Alaska Zoo. But after Annabelle died, Maggie was all alone. For years, zookeepers tried to keep her happy (and warm). But ultimately they sent Maggie to live at a sanctuary (PAWS). Now she is happy and at home with her new herd of other elephants. This is a heartwarming story of how zoos ensure the best for the animals in their care--even if the best is not at their zoo."--Inside dust jacket. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
