It is a cold and wintry day. She is telling the story of how hay goes from the fields into the baler. It starts in the summer into the fall when the hay is ready to be baled. Her mother is driving the tractor. She is excited to help her mother. I would recommend this for any collection looking for a picture book that gives a very basic introduction to baling hay. The photographs are colorful and depict the little girls’ excitement throughout the story. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

A girl tells the tale of making hay as Mom uses a mower for mowing grass, then a tedder for aerating the grass, and eventually a baler. Told in rhyme and illustrated with fabulous art by Joe Cepeda, each part of the process is a celebration of summer, farming, and the mother-daughter relationship. Back matter includes a glossary. One piece of reading advice that I would give adults (and young adults, but they might be too embarrassed) is to selectively read through the juvenile non-fiction. It gives quick, easy-to-understand introductions to a lot of subjects, including people who may not have easily available adult biographies. The young adult section is also good for giving accounts of subjects that are faster-to-read than adult versions. These versions for younger readers are also more likely to have pictures, which are very helpful. It allows me a better understanding of the world that I am living in, awareness of other places in the world, a better grasp of history, and of the details of daily life in other times and places which is a great help when reading adult works, especially older novels. If I am planning to read about someone who is very famous, I like to start with simpler biographies in order to get a grasp of the outlines of their lives before starting on something that is more detailed, and may assume that I am more familiar with the subject than I am.
