Ibn Arabi brilliantly expressed the teaching and intuitions of many generations of Sufis that preceded him. In a systematic and detailed way, he recorded in writing the vast background of Sufi experience and oral tradition. He left to the world a definitive exposition of the Sufi teaching and also a complete summary of the esoteric heritage of Islam. His influence on all subsequent Sufi teaching is profound and it can be said that it was the last Seal of Holiness, the last one to receive the "unmanifest" teachings of the Way. All those who came after him were inspired by his powerful figure. The biographical extracts that Ibn Arabi narrates in this book refer to the life and teachings of more than seventy Sufi masters of Nusulmana Spain and the Maghreb, who lived in the 12th and 13th centuries.
