The Dog I Loved is a story of betrayal and forgiveness, defeat and redemption, and determination in the face of impossible odds told through the lives of three very loveable canines and some remarkable humans. Finally free of an abusive relationship, Rosie faces the challenge of paying for past mistakes and moving on with her life. Meghan, a wounded vet, deals with healing, accepting her disabilities, and her fears for the future. Both women benefit from the remarkable program that allows prisoners to train therapy dogs while incarcerated. I found the narrative direct and heartwarming as the author takes us back and forth between these two women's lives and the service/therapy dogs they love and rely on. ( ) I've discovered a new author to read---and I can hardly wait to backtrack for all the books Wilson has written. I, too, am not a dog person---cats, yes---but I loved this story---the characters were wonderful...especially the way those two wonderful dogs...Spark, and Spike...were such an important part what happened. I loved this book, and I am not a dog person. There are several dogs in this novel, and some chapters are even written from a dog's point of view (which actually works). The book is about Rosie, the youngest in a large Irish family, and the only girl. Incarcerated in her early twenties for an accidental murder, she is allowed to participate in a program which enables her to train therapy dogs while in prison. Six years into a 20-year sentence, she receives an early release. The author skillfully weaves together Rosie's story with Meghan's, a wheelchair-bound war vet who receives the first therapy dog that Rosie trains. This is an absorbing and ultimately heartwarming story of strength, freedom, independence, family and survival. I'll be looking for more books written by Susan Wilson and will be telling everyone to read this book. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

HTML: New York Times bestselling author Susan Wilson is back another signature heartwarming audiobookâ??one that begs the question: Can a dog lead the way to finding one's humanity? After spending years in prison for a crime she didn't intend to commit, Rose Collins is suddenly free. Someone who knows about the good work she has doneâ??training therapy dogs while serving timeâ??has arranged for her early release. This mysterious benefactor has even set her up with a job in the coastal Massachusetts community of Gloucester, on the edge of Dogtown, a place of legend and, for the first time since Rosie's whole world came crashing down, hope. There she works to rebuild her life with the help of Shadow, a stray dog who appears one rainy night and refuses to leave Rose's side. Meghan Custer is a wheelchair-bound war veteran who used to be hopeless, too. Living at home with her devoted but stifling parents felt a lot like being in prison, in fact. But ever since she was matched with a service dog named Shark, who was trained in a puppy-to-prisoner rehabilitation program, Meghan has a brand new outlook. Finally, she can live on her own. Go to work. And maybe, with Shark by her side, even find love again. Two strong women on a journey toward independence whose paths collide in extraordinary ways. Two dogs who somehow manage to save them both. A tale of survival and a testament to the human spirit, The Dog I Loved is an emotional and inspiring audiobook that no listener will soon for Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
